I did not imply that you implied that it was an illegal search. I simply stated that if he had not given them permission to search his laptop and they searched it anyway that would be an illegal search, and grounds for an appeal if the first court convicted him anyway. The US SC has done a lot to push the limits of warrantless searches - but even still, they currently have to ask or have a warrant or have probable cause.
