[privacy] NGOs and information security

Hi all,

I'm a PhD student in the Information Security Institute at the Queensland University of Technology in Australia.

I'm doing some research into the information security needs of NGOs like human rights, environmental and social justice
organisations.

My hypothesis is that whilst some of these groups are well resourced, the majority are not and this would have a direct
effect on their information security management practices (or the lack thereof as the case may be). I also believe that
as such organisations are often in opposition to state and business actors with far greater resources than them that
there is a significant power imbalance, which in some circumstances will be to the detriment of these NGOs through
interception and eavesdropping on communications. There is also the possibility of industrial espionage being carried
out against such groups.

I would be very interested to hear of any ideas from list members, particularly anyone with experience in the field
with such matters.

My PGP public key is here:

Thanks,

Mark.
