pointless yet odd win2k bug

I noticed this earlier today... can anyone else shed any light as to
whats actually happening?

1 - call up explorer (windows key + e)
2 - Put the cursor in the address bar and click to make it active
(flashing cursor)
3 - press F4 list drops down
4 - press F5 (to refresh),( notice contents of dropdown goes blank)
5 - press F4 again, (notice that the folder icon disappears)
6 - press F4 again, now it all goes a bit squiffy... and the  ŋ symbol
appears...

what is happening here?

now for the kinda fun bit... press enter.... look at the third result.
the blurb sums it all up.

so why does the unicode c58b appear?

(doesnt seem to work on 2k3, xp, or internet explorer)
