This new Connecticut law is just plain nutty. It requires anyone doing more thatn $50K of business with the state to have their name, their spouse's name, and their kid's names published on a state Web site. Zabasearch.com can be used to find where the parents live in order to get to the kids. A Wall Street trade association has gone to court to challenge a new Connecticut election law that requires that state officials maintain an Internet database listing the names of the children and spouses of executives at companies that do business with the state. The law is meant to discourage executives from hiding campaign contributions by funneling them through family members. The Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association, a combined group of the stock-market and bond-trading trade groups, contends the state's public-disclosure requirement would invade its members' privacy and put children at risk. "How many Dateline NBC 'To Catch a Predators' do we have to watch to know it's not a good idea to put the name of a kid on the Internet?" said Ira Hammerman, the association's general counsel. He said the trade group supports campaign reform, but said state officials "have gone overboard" in their "zeal to do the right thing." ... _______________________________________________ privacy mailing list privacy () whitestar linuxbox org http://www.whitestar.linuxbox.org/mailman/listinfo/privacy
