But a group of 33 state attorneys general led by Connecticut's Richard Blumenthal are investigating taking legal action against MySpace if it doesn't raise the age limit to join the site to 16 (from 14 currently) and begin verifying MySpace members' ages against public databases. A lawsuit by the attorneys general could cost MySpace tens of millions of dollars in fees and generate reams of negative publicity, at a time when major advertisers are just overcoming their concerns about the site.
What, exactly, would be the legal basis of such a suite?! The reason some people own guns is the sudden realization of the fact, backed up by legal precedent, that the police are not liable for their safety or protection. That being a well known fact, how is it that MySpace CAN BE liable for the safety or protection of faceless, anonymous children - who need parents more than they need government protection? _______________________________________________ Fun and Misc security discussion for OT posts. https://linuxbox.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/funsec Note: funsec is a public and open mailing list.
