The good news is that (as long as this remains true) Western Digital is free
to screw their customers and their customers are free to take the money
elsewhere. Worst case, I start buying my drives from another country were
they don't allow the MPAA and RIAA to be a de facto government agency.

This is the most extreme example I've seen yet of tech companies crippling
data devices in order to please Hollywood: Western Digital is disabling
sharing of any avi, divx, mp3, mpeg, and many other files on its network
connected devices, due to "unverifiable media license authentication".

All I can say is just... wow.
