Either could be argued, just as long as the family has
access to it.

I had thought about sponsoring this one to make it
permanent, or arranging donations for it (it's only $79)
amongst us and putting the overflow to good use in his
name.  I'd rather not manage any such cash flow, so a less
organizationally-challenged volunteer to handle it would be
appreciated if we have agreement to do so.
