You forget "periodically used by someone other than their putative owners". See Arbor Networks report on "Dark Address Space": http://www.arbornetworks.com/dmdocuments/dark_address_space.pdf You know, if we'd all just let Bill Gates and the Cable and Phone Companies build the internet, none of this would have happened. We'd have a really cheerful, carefully vetted and professionally produced, advertising supported "Information SuperHighway", without all the Wild Wild West aspects, and without all the crime. Or at least all the unauthorized crime. You'd just press "8-8-8" on your tee vee megaremote, and you'd have your choice of 10 or 12 pre-approved channels of large corporate vendor's wares to select from. No boobies would appear, and tee vee anchors would not have the meaningless yet ominous phrase "ID theft" to toss around every evening. It's our own damn fault for not letting Older and Wiser Heads Prevail. -- NSA--CIA--FBI--NRO--TSA--JENKEM--DHS--BUTTHASH--TIARA--GHCQ--ECHELON As for you government types intercepting this, thanks for keeping us safe from our freedoms. Warrantless wiretapping is un-American and unpatriotic. _______________________________________________ Fun and Misc security discussion for OT posts. https://linuxbox.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/funsec Note: funsec is a public and open mailing list.
