Three students found in a caged area used for the storage of specialty
metals and electronics equipment are being charged, with the "lead
burglar", Michael Short, facing the possibility of 20 years in prison
for breaking and entering and up to 10 years in prison for possession of
"burglarious instruments".

He is probably charged because he was the genius who proudly displayed
his method of opening the locks with his "burglarious instruments" in
this case meaning "shreds of metal from a Diet Coke can".

In October 2006 a similar occurrence found three burglars in the Faculty
Club after hours. They were released after their attorneys argued that
the three were hackers "engaged in a longstanding tradition among MIT
students of after-hours exploration of the university campus".
