With two of my three kids born in Canada I've followed the McCain development with some interest. While I won't quote articles of law, the net is that the accepted definition is now: "born an american citizen". -chris "Somewhere, Beyond the Sea, somewhere waiting for me, my lover stands on golden saaaannnnds and watches the ships that go sailing." --- On Thu, 7/10/08, William Lefkovics <william () emailonastick com> wrote:

Is Panama "beyond the sea"? I am certainly no expert; I was referencing the article. -----Original Message----- From: Larry Seltzer [mailto:larry () larryseltzer com] Sent: Thursday, July 10, 2008 11:41 AM To: William Lefkovics; funsec Subject: RE: [funsec] stop blaming "America"...its owned by foreignersThere is no precedent as 'natural borncitizen' has not been thoroughly defined. It may be so, but it isn't 'obvious'. Really, it hasn't? I didn't know you were an expert on the matter. How's this for a definition? The Congress in 1790, a Congress on which a number of Framers sat, provided in the Naturalization Act that "...the children of citizens of the United States, that may be born beyond the sea, . . .shall be considered as natural born citizens . . . ." " Having been born on a US military base, McCain was, by right of birth, a US citizen. Obviously it fits the requirements, which are a stupid rule in any event. I expected something about Obama, but I think the US military zones should not be exempt from the requirement for becoming president. How silly to even investigate it. It sounds so....
