Not entirely true. There are some devices (Nexstar digital picture
frames FE) where the flash is read only unless you access it through the
included app. You can always launch the app directly, as opposed to by
Auto Run

For those things, I use VMware to hve a volatile VM (returns to snapshot
when powered off) to manage files.

Untrue.

I disabled AUTORUN a long time ago -- for things like digital cameras ,
or
anything else that relay on AUTORUN to automagically launch an
application,
you can always simply move files around as you would any other attached
device/drive.

Easy stuff.
