It appears, after putting together information from public and private
sources (thank you!) that this was a transient/localized "event", if it
was an event at all and not just a measurement artifact.  The spam levels
I'm seeing have rebounded and are on their way back to previous levels.
I doubt we'll ever know what the cause was, if there even was a "cause".
