I think it's more of what happens w/r/t promiscuity.  I'm sure an 
appropriate algorithm can be devised to figure out what the odds are of 
X people being in sync with each other, leading to some harmonic 
resonance that jostles tectonic plates in just the right way.

Either that or the tectonic plates are surfing pr0n and going for that 
extra tension relief.

least a 6 on the Richter scale!"  ;-)

Sure, I can see how that would work.  Promiscuity leads to more people, therefore
greater total mass, therefore more stress on the tectonic plates.  Sounds reasonable
to me.
