RE: spoolss overflow attempt: unknow threat or false alert ?

Hi!

These alerts are triggered only by Windows clients. No network printers
are causing these alerts.

I was thinking that this activity may be simple Printer advertisement as
described in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/161734. But I got following
questions:

1. Why these advertisements are being sent to servers on different
Intranet networks and domains? I would expect Add Printer to be sent to
local print master? In my case computers that are not any kind of master
in local subnet also get these advertisements.

2. Why number of clients increases that start to provide similar
behavior?

Clients run various Windows versions, so I am sure this does not bind to
specific Windows OS version or update level. Also various printers with
different printer drivers are behind this.
