From: Tony Rutkowski <amr () isoc org> The NSF-NIS NSFNet statistics were released today. A couple of developments of some strategic significance: A new traffic record was reached in the Internet world. Traffic on the NSF backbone grew by a stunning 20.7 percent - nearly 2 terabytes - during the month of March, for a new total of 11.226 Terabytes per month. This is the largest single jump in the history of the Internet. The browsing services continue to grow at remarkable rates. Gopher traffic grew by 17.6 percent and http (WWW) grew by 32.9 percent to a new total of one-half terabyte per month. Indeed, http traffic grew by a total of 0.7 percent of total NSFNet traffic, and is now 5th in service rank after ftp, telnet, netnews, and smtp mail. The new statistics are embodied in the latest Internet Society powerpoint graphs: ftp://ftp.isoc.org/isoc/charts/internet.ppt and browsing.ppt ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Anthony M.
