        WASHINGTON (AP) -- Seven groups known as the high-definition
television ``Grand Alliance'' selected the final technology
Wednesday for a super TV system that will be tested later this
year.
        They chose Zenith Electronics Corp.'s ``VSB'' technology, a
transmission system that will enable digitized information to get
into people's homes. It won out over General Instrument Corp.

        Other participants in the alliance are: AT&T; the Massachusetts
Institute of Technology and a consortium composed of Thomson
Consumer Electronics, Philips Consumer Electronics and the David
Sarnoff Research Center.
