Just in case you haven't picked up on this rather alarming AP story,

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -- CompuServe Inc. and a New Jersey-based
information company have signed a three-year agreement that will
give CompuServe users access to credit information, CompuServe said
Monday.
The agreement with National Information Bureau Ltd., or NIB,
will allow computer users with a modem-equipped personal computer
or compatible equipment to obtain NIB credit information by calling
a local CompuServe number.
NIB, of Princeton Junction, N.J., provides access to the major
credit reporting services for consumer and commercial information.
CompuServe members will be required to clear several levels of
security to gain access to the credit records, CompuServe said in a
news release.
Other data available through the service will include
information from departments of motor vehicles, and records on
workers' compensation, real estate, taxes, crime and employment.
        Columbus-based CompuServe provides networking services,
electronic mail, business information services and software to
major corporations and government agencies worldwide.
CompuServe Information Service, which has 1.7 million members
worldwide, provides nearly 2,000 databases for business and
personal use.
