BELL ATLANTIC PLANS, WITH ESCAPE HATCH
With much fanfare, Bell Atlantic launched its $11 billion
multimedia network, enlisting the aid of AT&T, General Instrument Corp. and
Broadband Technologies Inc. (Wall Street Journal 5/20/94 B3) But Bell
Atlantic's aggressive plans for providing movies on demand in Northern
Virginia has an escape hatch. If consumers aren't interested after the
first wave of interactive offerings, company executives say they will halt
construction of the information superhighway. (St. Petersburg Times 5/22/94
A8)

AD FLAMING WILL FLAME OUT, SAYS ADVERTISING AGE
An Advertising Age editorial says that advertisers on the Internet
should respect netiquette, by clearly labelling ads placed where users have
the option of summoning more information, and predicts that as more
professional and respectable advertisers move onto the Internet, some of
the widely publicized anti-advertising "will begin to flame out."
(Advertising Age 5/2/94 p.24)
