As noted in Chronicle of Higher Ed: A glance at the November 13 issue of "New York" magazine: Researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's vaunted Media Laboratory are dangerously dismissive of issues other than the technical "how to" of human-computer interaction, writes David Bennahum. The researchers, he writes, ignore potential consequences of their work and never seriously discuss two problems created by the "information revolution": people's loss of privacy and loss of control over their lives. "Hacking is about taking a system apart and rebuilding it to make it better ... but society isn't a computer and the stakes are higher," he writes, in an issue also featuring two stories on cyber-age New York.
