The bill included $126 million of the $146 million that the President requested for NSF's portion of the "Information Technology for the 21st Century" initiative. This is $90 million for IT research -- and $36 million for high-end computing for the research community. The solicitation is at http://www.itr.nsf.gov/ Kudos to: * The President's Information Technology Advisory Committee for developing a compelling rationale for increased investment in long-term IT research (Our own Dave Farber is a card-carrying member of PITAC) See http://www.ccic.gov/ac/ * The President and Vice President for including it in the budget * Many people in industry and academia for supporting the President's request * Members of Congress of both parties for including it in the appropriations bill.
