Medals with cash awards of $10,000 and $5,000 will also be given in each of five topic areas. Most Innovative Development Project $125,000 will be given to the individual, group or institution whose development project holds the greatest promise for benefiting the poor in developing countries. Sponsorship and Selection Committees The Government of Japan is sponsoring the competition to help foster the creation and application of new knowledge about development. World Bank President James Wolfensohn and former World Bank Chief Economist Joseph Stiglitz will chair the selection committees. Deadlines June 30 Initial application, abstracts, brief project descriptions Aug. 31 Full papers and full project descriptions Dec. 11-13 Winners announced at GDN2000 in Tokyo. All finalists will receive an expense-paid trip to the conference.
