Dave {Crocker},

Hi.  I'm not so sure that they'll care too much about topology at that level
(especially if they really plan to use IPv6).  I'll bet they intend that all
such devices would be operating within the Sony "cloud" or would access the
outside world only through their gateways.  A similar philosophy seems to
have taken hold with cell phones.  My WAP-enabled phone came with a
pre-assigned IP address, which wasn't simply set when the phone was
activated (the IP address was actually part of the serial #/barcoded info
on the side of the box, assigned apparently at the same time as the phone's
permanent ESN).
