By Laura Sullivan Sun Staff Originally published August 24, 2001 When midshipmen at the Naval Academy set out to build a satellite three years ago, school officials balked at the half-million-dollar price. So the midshipmen came up with another plan and built one for a fraction of the cost - using parts from Radio Shack.
