Assessor Rick Auerbach said that just because something is not physically in Los Angeles County does not mean it can't be taxed. "It's about 22,000 miles up in space. But there is other property that moves around, taxable property, such as boats, aircraft, construction equipment...," said Auerbach. Hughes Electronics in El Segundo (part of L.A. County) owns many of the birds currently in orbit, and is not pleased with the idea. The legal status of the concept is, uh, "uncertain" to say the least, but it's certainly good for a chuckle! --Lauren-- Lauren Weinstein lauren () pfir org or lauren () vortex com or lauren () privacyforum org Co-Founder, PFIR: People For Internet Responsibility - http://www.pfir.org Moderator, PRIVACY Forum - http://www.vortex.com Member, ACM Committee on Computers and Public Policy
