David Farber:

I heard this coming from the TV set in the den, and couldn't believe what I
heard. Luckily, I've got one of those hard disk video recorders (ReplayTV)
connected to the set, so I could back up to accurately pick up the quote.

From the March 23, 2001 Rosie O'Donnell show. During a segment with guest,
actress Mary Stuart Masterson ("Fried Green Tomatoes"), the subject of math
education comes up. Rosie, the children's champion, speaks her mind on the
topic of mathematics in schools, and her guest chimes in on the idea.

Rosie: "I think there's no way they should have to teach it, now. We have
computers. We no longer need to know why 3X equals 2Y over 4. Or if a bus
leaves Utah at 4 pm, how many blonde-haired people [are] on it? I mean, how
the hell do you figure that out?"

Guest: "And why? Why would you want to know? Leave some things up to
chance, you know?"
