Power grid execs admit to bloated budget

BY JOHN WOOLFOLK AND ERIC NALDER

Mercury News

The non-profit agency that runs most of California's electric grid and sits
at the hub of the state's collapsing power system spends far more than any
other grid operator in the country on everything from telephones to salaries.

The agency, the California Independent System Operator, pays more than $30
million a year for a phone system that vastly exceeds its needs, gives its
chief executive a salary of more than a half-million dollars and spent $15
million on an outdated computer system that needs to be replaced after just
three years.
