Interesting news item... the beginning of network warfare? IFPI unveils Napster search tool LONDON (Billboard) - As expected, the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry on Wednesday unveiled what it claims is the first ever publicly available search tool that can track use of copyright-holders' works on Napster. IFPI chairman/CEO Jay Berman said the tool will likely be reconfigured for other peer-to-peer platforms. The Songbird software, developed by Travis Hill, president of Utah-based technology company Media Enforcer, searches all available Napster servers for variations of artists' names or song titles, including those that are misspelled. The user can then choose to have infringing works removed. One year in the making, the tool was developed in cooperation with the IFPI's anti-piracy unit. Hill said he created the software with an aim to "eventually clear the Internet from unauthorized music files." He said Songbird is particularly helpful for artists and independent companies that don't have the financial or technical means to protect their works. The software is endorsed by artists' organizations that include BIEM, CISAC, the International Federation of Musicians, and the International Confederation of Music Publishers. whose agents will evolve faster to attack/block the others' agents? how does one swarm learn faster than a competing swarm?
