From: "Mark White" <mark_white () eglobal net> To: "'David Farber'" <dave () farber net> http://www.smh.com.au/news/0110/11/national/national25.html The first "virtual union" appeared in cyberspace yesterday as the State Government gave its blessing to a union network aimed at recruiting new members in the information technology industry. Unions launched the IT Workers Alliance with a Web site offering representation and a range of services to thousands of workers in an industry where unions have failed to gain a foothold. The head of the NSW Labor Council, John Roberston, said: "The Web site is the infrastructure for what may one day become a union every bit as powerful as the CFMEU or the AMWU." The Web site - www.itworkers-alliance.org - was launched in Sydney by the State minister responsible for information technology, Kim Yeadon, and will carry information on job opportunities, employers to avoid and assistance for negotiating contracts.
