Subject: The Day After

I'm struck by how unprepared the Indians and Pakistanis for the reality of
nuclear war. It will be too late for them (and the rest of the world) if
the first time they really come to an understanding of the horrors is after
millions have been incinerated.

We perhaps take for granted how a generation of Americans (and Soviet
citizens) were drilled and prepared for the meaning of a nuclear exchange.
Which is perhaps a crucial reason that the Cold War remained just that.

The world doesn't have time for the Pakistanis and Indians to grasp the
seriousness of the situation (in fact, I've not seen any reports that the
civil authorities have even begun planning for a response to an attack -
apparently, the 'leaders' lack the courage to point out the scary details to
a population caught up in war-hysteria.

Anyway (and I know this is a reach and far, far from perfect) perhaps ABC
could be convinced to rush out an appropriately dubbed version of The Day
After (as shown on network television in 1983). Surely, amongst the
humanitarians who subscribe to IP (perhaps a thoughtful member of the
Silicon Valley Indian community) there would be an underwriter to arrange
for this movie to be shown on national television in both Pakistan and
India.

I pray that this helps.
