The Wireless Week In Review - January 6, 2003 -- Fighting For A Cause Local number portability and tele-marketing issues came to the fore this week. Certain industry associations took a strong stance on these issues. CTIA announced that it would file a petition asking that the FCC suspend a November 24 deadline to comply with the number portability rule until the agency first changes the rules for the wireline telephone industry. The CTIA argued that the rule would cost the industry USD 1 billion to implement, and was unnecessary in an industry where one-third of the customers find new carriers every year. Fighting for another cause, The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) proposed a list on which people would place their names in order to reduce unwanted calls from telemarketers. The registry would cost an estimated USD 16 million in fiscal 2003 and be financed by fees from telemarketers, pending an approval from Congress. Telemarketers strongly opposed the creation of a government "do-not-call" list. ------ End of Forwarded Message ------------------------------------- You are subscribed as interesting-people () lists elistx com To unsubscribe or update your address, click http://v2.listbox.com/member/?listname=ip Archives at: http://www.interesting-people.org/archives/interesting-people/
