LOS ANGELES, March 18 (UPI) -- The FBI is investigating
alleged movie piracy by employees at Twentieth Century Fox, which
has been a strong voice against the practice.
Court documents in Los Angeles show that Twentieth Century
Fox security officials discovered a server carrying pirated films
and computer games, The Wall Street Journal said.
This would be the first time that movie piracy has involved
insiders, the Journal said. Previous cases have involved people
linked to but outside of the studios.
Twentieth Century Fox told the Journal it has dismissed the
employees involved in the matter and intends "to see that anyone
implicated in this matter is prosecuted under the fullest extent of
the law."
The illicitly copied movies included items from the studio's
own line-up, such as "X2: X-Men United" and films from other
studios, such as Sony Corp.'s "Daddy Day Care" and Walt Disney Co.'s
"Bringing Down the House." Twentieth Century Fox is a unit of News
Corp.
