MCI's Web site indicates the company was founded in 1968.  See 
http://global.mci.com/about/company/facts/

I believe that 1968 is the year Wm. McGowan joined MCI, but Jack Goeken 
founded MCI (first known as Microwave Communications, Inc.) in 1963, 
and began developing a microwave-based network.  It's possible that a 
new corporate entity was formed in 1968, but most companies tend to 
list their first year as when the doors opened, regardless of whether 
predecessor entities existed.

It's funny that a search in google for the "founder of MCI" will turn 
up McGowan's name multiple times, but not the real answer, which is 
Goeken.
