Carnegie Mellon Says Business School Computers Were Breached Fri Apr 22, 6:06 PM ET More than 5,000 people are at risk of having had their personal data accessed, according to the school, which said it has no ``clear idea'' how long the system had been vulnerable. PITTSBURGH (AP) - Carnegie Mellon University is warning more than 5,000 students, employees and graduates that their Social Security numbers and other personal information may have been accessed during a breach of the school's computer network. Carnegie Mellon discovered the breach on April 10. Spokesman Mike Laffin said that as of Wednesday, the school had no clear idea how long the system had been vulnerable. Officials say they have no evidence that anyone had used the personal information. The affected computers had personal information for people who got graduate degrees from the Tepper School of Business from 1997 to 2004. The computers also contained data on the school's current graduate students, doctoral applicants from 2003 to 2005, applicants to the Masters of Business Administration program from September 2002 to May 2004 and administrative employees. Information about undergraduate students and professors was not compromised, the school said. ------ End of Forwarded Message ------------------------------------- You are subscribed as lists-ip () insecure org To manage your subscription, go to http://v2.listbox.com/member/?listname=ip Archives at: http://www.interesting-people.org/archives/interesting-people/
