Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff said Tuesday
[...]
"The average American gives information up to get a CVS (drugstore discount) card that is far more in-depth than TSA's going to be looking at."
Yeah, but last I looked, the local pharmacy can't shoot me, detain me without trial under USA-PATRIOT, raid my home, or add me to a "no-fly" list. This is the classic hand-wave of intentionally confusing consumer concerns about invasion of the civil "right to be let alone", and a much more serious and well-founded fear of further destruction of the Fourth Amendment, state constitutional, and statutory privacy protections against government search, seizure, unjust imprisonment, and surveillance, which have exactly jack to do with some company profiling of my purchases. It's like Chertoff is saying "Well, when your grandmother tells you to shut up, you do, so why should you mind if we repeal the First Amendment?" ------------------------------------- You are subscribed as lists-ip () insecure org To manage your subscription, go to http://v2.listbox.com/member/?listname=ip Archives at: http://www.interesting-people.org/archives/interesting-people/
