As you probably recall, back in 1999 when ICANN finally brought Network Solutions under its authority, ICANN imposed a $6/registration cap on what the registry could charge registrars for COM/NET/ORG domain names. With the new .NET agreement entered last week between ICANN and Verisign, the caps are coming off, effective January 1, 2007: http://gnso.icann.org/mailing-lists/archives/council/msg01080.html On the one hand, this gets ICANN out of the non-"technical coordination" business of price control. On the other hand, will you be able to afford to renew your .NET domain name when Versign implements its new pricing model in 2007? Something to consider when thinking about the proper role of ICANN and the meaning of "technical coordination." -- Bret Fausett ------------------------------------- You are subscribed as lists-ip () insecure org To manage your subscription, go to http://v2.listbox.com/member/?listname=ip Archives at: http://www.interesting-people.org/archives/interesting-people/
