It should be noted that the other big problem with the recent election in Allegheny county is that some of the paper ballots (used for absentee voting or when electronic machines were not available) have been lost and nobody seems to be able to find them. They found most of them (improperly handled by poll workers and placed in the wrong envelopes at the close of polls), but as of a few days ago there were apparently a number that are still unaccounted for in one very close race.

Allegheny County recently held elections with electronic voting machines. Only one software version was approved, but at least 2 versions were used, making the election here illegal. The local paper declared in a headline
that the voting machines "worked well" -- as if "working" means going
through the motions of voting with no assurance that votes are actually
counted.
