These guys awayphone allegedly give you a handful of SIMs which give you a local number in each country you plan to visit and then use the internet to ship the calls back and forth (at least that's what they seem to be telling the press -- I couldn't find any actual technical mention on their web site).
If that's what they're actually doing it's yet another cool example of using the internet to do an "end-to-end run" around the telco oligopolies.
