It would appear that the list of (alleged) quotations comes from a  
page such as:

http://answersoflife.net/resources/einstein_%20quotes.htm

at the foot of which is:

"Copyright: Kevin Harris 1995 (may be freely distributed with this  
acknowledgement)"

(Google found 279 copies of the list of quotations which *did* include  
this acknowledgement, and many thousands which didn't. Some of the 279  
included - without attribution - the preamble "Note: This list of  
Einstein quotes was being forwarded around the Internet in e-mail, so  
I decided to put it on my web page. I'm afraid I can't vouch for its  
authenticity, tell you where it came from, who compiled the list, who  
Kevin Harris is, or anything like that. Still, the quotes are  
interesting and enlightening."

I wonder how many of these quotations can be demonstrated to be really  
due to Einstein. (One page I found recommended "The Expanded Quotable  
Einstein.  Alice Calaprice and Freeman J. Dyson, eds. Princeton:  
Princeton University Press,  2000" as a good place to check their  
authenticity.)
