Hi Dave:

Turning from the (useful) questions raised about the difficulty of deploying
the network that Google plans, the next question I have is how they're going
to fill those gigabit pipes.

My gut reaction is that it will be tough. The target is a modest sized
population, which is not going to generate enough big sized content on its
own. That doesn't leave a bunch of choices. One interesting one is that
Google will use the network to test bandwidth-richer versions of Google
apps (imagine Google Earth with the graphics amp'ed up or hi-def YouTube).
Another is to start pumping high def video channels.

While it may be tough, if Google picks the right community and gets enough big
bandwidth apps it will presumably learn a lot regarding the impacts of
higher bandwidth on user behavior and usage.

Thanks!

Craig
