Japanese space agency admits rocket data may have been compromised

Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) admitted last Friday that data 
regarding an experimental rocket has been possibly stolen through the 
use of a computer virus that infected one agency computer. In the 
announcement, JAXA says that a computer at its Tsukuba Space Center 
northeast of Tokyo was found to be secretly collecting data and 
transmitting the stolen data outside of the agency.

The space agency discovered on November 21 that a computer virus was 
behind the data leak and conducted an emergency scanning of all agency 
computers. No other computer was found to be compromised and the 
infected computer was promptly taken out of the network. The agency is 
unsure whether this is a random prank or a directed cyber attack. 
Recently, Japanese defense companies have been the target of similar 
incidents, some of which have been traced to China.
