adding msfencoded msfpayload to existing PDF

CarnalOwnage had an interesting article about using msfencode to add an msfpayload into an exisiting executable.
Is there a way to do the same but into a pdf file instead?
I've looked at the Social Engineering Toolkit but it seems to create a trojaned blank pdf, not what I want.
