Like the start of some new RFC :-)which way is up? perhaps you had better state the problem in terms of X,Y,Z coordinates at a minium. Adding the fourth vector, time, may be useful as well; e.g. "... it was a router last night..."
maybe polar coordinates are better situated for distance vector protocols?
