However, I will still be laughing my ass off if this whole "Pentagon
under
cyberwar attack from Russia" episode turns out to just be some script kiddie using nmap -D :). It won't be the first time the military gone into a huge paranoid fit and caused a media frenzy over a bored
teenager
or three.
Me too! :-D
I think it is also worth noting that neither CIO nor Wired provided
any
links to nmap. I think they want it to seem like a shady program distributed only among underground hackers. In reality any sysadmin
can
try it out for themselves at www.insecure.org/nmap/
And I have. My use of nmap is for that very purpose, learning how to secure my own net. It has given me many insights and has caused me to dig deeper into the inner workings of my Linux network. For this, I am very thankful that the program is available. NMAP is no better or worse than any standard firearm. It can be used for self-defence or murder(or at least attempted murder) after a fashion. I use it for self-defence. Fyodor, thanks for the good tool. cp/lp _________________________________________________________ DO YOU YAHOO!? Get your free @yahoo.com address at http://mail.yahoo.com
