if that doesn't work, then my guess would be that SOCK_PACKET wasn't compiled into the kernel, but there doesn't seem to be an option to do that in 2.0.36 that i can find (and i wouldn't expect one to have been added in 2.2.0, but i haven't looked at the 2.2.0 kernel yet...)
