Nmap uses libpcap as a portable way to capture network
packets.  Unfortunately libpcap still uses linux's SOCK_PACKET instead of
the (BPF like) Linux Packt Filter to do the capturing.  Thus you can
expect that error.  There are many other problems with Linux support in
the current libpcap (this is why Nmap includes a hacked version).

The good news is that a new version of tcpdump/libpcap will be comming out
very soon.  I will then ship the new, fixed version with Nmap.  

I just hope this new libpcap version is released before Linux rips
SOCK_PACKET out of the kernel (which he could do for 2.4).
