Hello everyone, When I announced my talk at CanSecWest earlier this year, several people complained that they couldn't afford (or didn't want to spend) $1500 to attend a conference. This is especially a problem for hobbyists with no commercial backing. So I have decided to speak on Advanced Network Reconnaissance Techniques at Defcon 11 ( http://www.defcon.org ). The Defcon ticket price is only $75 for three whole days of wild revelry (I mean learning)! My presentation is scheduled for Friday, August 1 at Noon. This is at the very beginning of the conference. I will give an updated version of my CanSecWest talk. Here is the summary: "Fyodor will present real-life examples of common network and firewall configurations, then demonstrate practical techniques for exploring and mapping those networks. He will cover IDS evasion, "phantom ports", advanced ping sweeps, firewall circumvention, DNS hackery, IPv6, and more using his free Nmap scanner and many other Open Source tools." In other news, I agreed to give an interview for the Slashdot.Org "news for nerds" site. The questions were excellent and covered many topics, from how to get started in the security field, to securing small networks, the Honeynet Project, and (of course) Nmap. You can find my answers here: http://interviews.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=03/05/30/1148235&startat=&threshold=4&mode=nocomment&commentsort=3&op=Change Cheers, Fyodor -------------------------------------------------- For help using this (nmap-hackers) mailing list, send a blank email to nmap-hackers-help () insecure org .
