Stealing the Network: How to Own a Continent

Hello everyone. Many of you know that I have spent the last 6 months
working on an Nmap book. It is coming along nicely, and may even be
finished by Christmas. It could be the biggest gift fad since
Tickle-Me-Elmo! Since I'm not certain I can make that date, you may
want to buy your kids a bicycle or pony as a backup gift :).

While nonfiction has its charms, I had the opportunity to participate
in a novel about hacking, called Stealing the Network: How to
Own the Continent. That went much faster, because I had the aid of
other co-authors such as embedded-hacking-extraordinaire FX, Joe Grand
("Kingpin") from the L0pht, Jay Beale of Bastille, and others. While
the work is fiction, hacks are described in depth using real
technology such as Nmap, Hping2, OpenSSL, etc. I think it turned out
pretty well, as a fun Summer read. Amazon
just started shipping it yesterday. My chapter is online for free at
http://www.insecure.org/stc/ , or you can buy the whole book via my
aff link at
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/1931836051/secbks-20 . Note
that Amazon doesn't have the author list or cover right -- you can see
the true cover at the bottom of my online chapter page.

In Nmap news, I hope to have a new version out shortly (early June).
The latest source-only development version is 3.51-TEST3, available
from http://seclists.org/lists/nmap-dev/2004/Apr-Jun/0022.html . It
has some cool new MAC-address-related features.

Cheers,
Fyodor
