Upcoming Nmap Tutorials

Hello everyone,

I'm pleased to announce the release of Nmap 4.01111111. OK, not
really :). We've had enough Nmap releases lately. Instead, I want to
let you know is that I have agreed to give two advanced Nmap tutorials
(one full day, one half day) just prior to CanSecWest in beautiful
Vancouver B.C., Canada on April 3 and 4.

My favorite aspect of this CSW Dojo event is that instructors are all
well-known authorities on their topics. You've also got Marty Roesch
teaching Snort, Renaud Deraison on Nessus, Halvar on Reverse
engineering, Gera from Core on Exploit writing, and more. These are
classes I would like to take. Course registration is limited to 10
students each to keep them interactive and hands-on.

My course is on Network Reconnaissance with Nmap 4. Attendees receive
a zero-day (pre-release) printed copy of my upcoming Nmap book.
Prolific Nmap developer Doug Hoyte will be assisting with the course
as well. Topics include:

o Speed optimization for scanning large or heavily firewalled networks
  o Analyzing and circumventing firewalls
  o Subverting intrusion detection systems
o Port scanning techniques and algorithms
  o Automating daily scans*
  o Host Discovery*
  o Version detection*
o Defending your network against Nmap*
o The 2nd Generation OS fingerprinting system*

The full day course covers everything, while marked (*) topics are
abbreviated for the half-day session.

Rather than simply re-hash man pages and define each option flag, I
show how practical problems are solved by combining several techniques
with careful analysis. Complementary open source tools such as Hping2
and Netcat are also demonstrated. Since this is a hands-on course,
everyone must come with a laptop loaded with Nmap. Real-life examples
are given for the class to work through and practice on. But I'll try
to avoid exercises likely to get us arrested.

Registration just opened at http://www.cansecwest.com/dojorecon.html .
If you are interested, I recommend registering ASAP. There are only
20 total slots for the two Nmap courses available. I warned in a
previous email that ShmooCon would likely sell out, then still
received sorrowful mails from people who waited too long. Don't let
that happen to you this time. There is also a 10% discount for early
registration. If you have any questions or desires for course
content, let me know. A great thing about such small classes is that
I can customize them for what the participants are most interested in.

Cheers,
Fyodor

PS: A similar DoJo is happening in the London this Fri/Sat, though I
am not teaching there. See http://www.eusecwest.com/dojo.html
