Hi folks. Many of us can't attend Defcon in person this year due to global
pandemic, but we won't let that stop our traditional Defcon Nmap release!
We just posted Nmap 7.92 to https://nmap.org/download.html. It includes
dozens of performance improvements, feature enhancements, and bug fixes
that we've made over the last 10 months.

The biggest improvement (at least for Windows users) is the inclusion of
version 1.50 of Npcap (https://npcap.org), our Windows packet capturing &
transmission driver. It's vastly improved over the version 1.00 which
shipped with Nmap 7.91. You can read about all of those Npcap improvements
at https://npcap.org/changelog since they aren't in the Nmap changelog.
This upgrade will make other Npcap client software such as Wireshark work
better as well.

Another nice upgrade for the Windows users is ARM architecture support.
Nmap 7.92 works great on current ARM devices such as the Microsoft Surface
Pro X and Samsung Galaxy Book Go. Many more ARM devices are expected along
with the upcoming Windows 11 release, and Nmap is ready for them! This was
enabled by the ARM support we added to Npcap 1.50 as described at
https://seclists.org/nmap-announce/2021/2

We have also upgraded our Windows builds to use more modern infrastructure
like Visual Studio 2019, the Windows 10 SDK and UCRT, plus a new generation
(3.07) of the NSIS installer.

While I lead with all these Windows improvements, most Nmap 7.92 changes
help everyone! These include TLS 1.3 support, new NSE scripts, better UDP
payloads, SMB2 protocol improvements, XML output improvements, a new
--unique command-line option, updated OpenSSL, and a ton of bug fixes and
other improvements. You can find the full list at
https://nmap.org/changelog

Nmap 7.92 source code and binary packages for Linux, Windows, and Mac are
available for free download from the usual spot:

https://nmap.org/download.html

We also have Nmap OEM builds available for companies that wish to embed
Nmap network discovery technology within their own products. That program
is described at https://nmap.org/oem

If you find any bugs in this release, please let us know on the bug tracker
or dev list as described at https://nmap.org/book/man-bugs.html.

Happy scanning,
-Gordon "Fyodor" Lyon
