If it poses no security or privacy problems for you (or anyone else)
send me the xml file (change the IPs to 192.* or 10.* if you want) and
i'll peep it here and run it through my program to see what it does...
i only tested it with nmap -sS -O scans so i am not sure if it will
freak out for anything else.

I tried again to get IE to open the XML file and just get the error

Opening in Excel is an easy way to then manipulate the data to many other formats, etc. Excel 2000, XP, 2003, along
with Open Office all support XML, but for some reason only Excel 2000 was able to read the Nmap output and now not
sure if that is the case.

IE should open it, and i don't see why excel like applications would
need to or want to open xml files that have nothing to do with
'excel-like' activities... I have an app that successfully reads nmap
output but since its pretty pathetic right now i'll wait either a
month or untill its not so embarassing before i release it'. Database
servers like DB2 and MSSQL i think even some mysql and postgresql
implementations can read xml files and store them in databases (just
FYI, its better then excel tables)

The only 'thing' (can't say a problem) i see with the nmap xml output
is that the OS/machine type is free text so subsequent processing with
a front-end or other type of application is kind of unclean.

How do other use the Nmap XML output on Win32?? I found that OpenOffice.org Calc could not open the XML file as
anything other then a plain text file. MS Office 2000 could open the XML file in Excel, but Excel 2003 does not ,
not sure what M$ changed there.

How doe others use the XML output and what applications have successfully read the output other than your custom
applications?
